One my my closer friends is slightly plus size and is Indian. She cosplays and has gotten some shit over the net for it. This girl got me into cosplaying, and has stuck by my side through a lot so far, and seeing her hurt over pretentious assholes who are clearly so miserable in life, they feel the need to bring anyone down they can, pisses me off.

She happens to be a personal example that’s close to me, but I’ll stick up for anyone. Cosplay has a special meaning to everyone, and it’s always a little different. Some want to compete and be the best. Others do it to have fun, and spend time with friends. Whatever the reason is, we’re all in these fandoms together, we all have our ships, all have our fanning moments. We’re all the same deep down, so why hate.

I think anyone should cosplay whatever the fuck they want despite what anyone says or thinks. However when one person says, “I don’t want people to feel insecure by not looking their best”, it’s statements like that, that instill that sort of insecurities.

Just do what you want to do, and have fun. Because once you start just doing this for others opinions on you, what’s the point? You’re not having fun, you’re stressing, fuck that. Cosplay for you, for fun, and it’ll be the best memories you make. Fuck the rest.
